Bakelite Housewares and Kitchenware
Bakelite, Catalin and other brands of cast phenolic were used to create housewares and kitchenware that were practical, affordable and colorful.
Heat-resistant Bakelite found its way to toasters, irons, coffee pots, tea pots, lights and lamps. It was used with bottles, canisters, sugar bowls, salt and pepper shakers, trays, bread boxes, kitchen timers, ice buckets, cookie cutters, napkin rings, syrup pitchers, children's utensils, and many other household items.
Bakelite was frequently used to make the handles for metal utensils such as flatware, beaters, choppers, cleavers, corn creamers, dough blenders, garnishing tools, graters, knife sharpeners, meat lifters, meat saws, meat tenderizers, openers, pie crimpers, potato mashers, scoops, spatulas, spreaders, strainers, whips, cake-breakers, carving sets, meat forks, cheese slicers, forks, salad sets, ice cream scoops, ice tongs, ladles, pastry servers, cheese spreaders, pizza cutters, serving spoons, corn holders, forks, knives, and spoons.
